Both our grass-fed beef isolate and plant-based protein powders are complete proteins with all 9 essential amino acids and 20g+ of protein per serving. Of that 20g+ of protein, there is roughly 16g of collagen in each serving/scoop, which helps support skin, joints, hair and nail strength; however, as a complete protein, we believe it's fantastic for athletes or anyone looking to support protein synthesis!
Our beef isolate is also made from the flesh covered bones, joints, and tendons of grass-fed and grass-finished cattle without the use of any milk product, and is therefore 100% dairy- and whey-free, so it is a great alternative for those with dairy sensitivities or anyone following a specific diet (i.e. Paleo, etc.).
Re: whey vs. beef protein, beef protein may have a lower bioavailability compared to whey protein. However, it still ranks higher than some other protein sources as a complete protein with all 9 essential amino acids, and does not contain any dairy or casein if you're trying to avoid that. There is a slight difference in Leucine content (more in whey protein than in beef isolate). Leucine is what triggers protein synthesis, so it may be worth supplementing additional Leucine or adding Leucine-filled whole foods to your diet as well as the protein powder (see Amino Acids-related details below as well).
Ultimately, whey protein offers a multitude of benefits that are similar in comparison to our grass-fed isolate (promoting muscle repair + growth, preserving lean muscle mass, boosting the metabolism, reducing appetite + curbing cravings, regulating blood sugar levels, etc.), so it mostly comes down to personal preference and whether you are looking for a dairy-free option or not.
While bone broth protein has its own benefits, particularly for joint health and overall wellness due to its collagen content, beef isolate protein tends to be more specifically tailored for muscle recovery and growth post-workout. Its higher BCAA content and demonstrated effects on lean mass and strength make it a more effective choice for post-workout recovery. Bone broth protein is significantly richer in collagen and collagen-specific amino acids (glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline) compared to beef isolate protein.
Our recently introduced Essential Amino Acids + Lemon Amino Acids are a good option in place of whey protein or as an occasional supplementation due to the high Leucine content. Supplementing with amino acids lets you quickly absorb the maximum benefits of protein. In fact, supplementation with one 6.5g serving of Be Well Essential Amino Acids is just as effective at protein synthesis as supplementation with 160g of whey protein! That means you'd have to guzzle about 7 whey protein shakes to get the same benefits.
On another note, getting enough protein every day as a vegan or vegetarian is a wellness topic that’s talked about a lot. By supplementing with our Japanese plant-based essential amino acids, vegans can instantly improve their bioavailable protein intake with just one small scoop a day.
At the end of the day, we always recommend you do what's best for you and consult a physician for any specific medical- and care-related advice.
